Spread Hope Across Australia

Human Trafficking
Australia - Sydney, Perth, Wagga Wagga, Midura, Port Augusta, Wuddina, Ceduna, Southern Cross, Northam
Inspiration
I realize that so many people have no idea that revenue from human sex trafficking is bigger than pornography. It makes me sick. And I think that if more people knew, we could really pull together to make a difference.

On top of that, I love to run. I love running long distances for no apparent reason. I want a way to run for purpose. I want to run for a reason.
How
My idea is to train for a while and eventually get a team together to take three months to run the length of australia from SYDNEY to PERTH! That's over 1,800 miles. We would run for attention from people and the media. And whenever asked why we're doing this, we use the opportunity to raise awareness about the situation.

That would be such a great idea to do that or a triathlon event. That would be great here in California. Any ideas on how to create an event like yours?

Hey man! Thanks for the comment. There's a guy I know named Aaron who is one of the founders of Venture Expeditions. They do long distance bike trips, hiking trips, and runs to spread awareness of social issues. Google them and check out their website. When I got the idea for the run, I called Venture and ended up on the phone with Aaron. He gave me a lot of feedback on cost and what you would need and stuff like that. They helped me out a lot. Contact them. They can answer your questions.

Great Idea!!!
Terry Fox from Vancouver, chose to run long distance across Canada to raise awareness of cancer.
He passed away from cancer, but people all over the country run on school campuses once a year to remember him and raise money for the cause. He affected his entire generation.
keep me posted!

Where can people sign up?!? This is a cause that I'm so passionate about and I, too, love to run. God has definitely put a calling on my heart to do SOMETHING. Great idea and keep us posted!

Love what your doing there Luke, it is pretty much the same as what I have organised in the UK, except mine is a far shorter distance and on a bike. Makes me look so lame, hehe...

Hey Luke,

You have definitely created a great idea here and a lot of disussion.

I used to work a bit for Nova 96.9fm radio (Sydney) and my advice to ya is that if you are dead on serious about doing this, then you need to begin planning. Don't just let it be a great idea, but put it to action.

Be aware that it may take the rest of this year to plan, meaning you could launch it in 2011. Firstly you need a big enough group of runners to draw attention on a national level. Secondly you need to assess how you're going to feed everyone for three months while we're all running. Practically: People will forget that you're running if youre going to be running for 3 months. But it is an awesome idea! If we gathered 1 car for each nation on the planet and drive for a week, then this would allow people to keep in touch with where the groups at while the events on. Once you have the numbers, the committment and the logistics, then you need to fully infiltrate the radio stations and news producers. You may get pushed back a few times before they even consider you but dont give up. It took me 3 official letters, 7 telephone calls, 5 emails and an interview just to get two weeks volunteer work at Nova 96.9fm. You may even think of getting a mate you know with production and camera skills to film the event so that when you get back, you can cover youtube etc.

I can see massive potential for this and heaps of people would sponsor this if we did it right! Call out if you need help with this :) I'd be happy to assist :)

Peace out- Bella.

Some teenage friends of my youth pastor just finished biking from California to Florida - all the way across the U.S. to raise money to fight sex trafficking in Columbia. It took them 13 weeks to go over 3,000 miles, about 4,900 km. They built a website, got sponsors, sold t-shirts, and got other churches involved nationwide. They called their event Breaking the Cycle. You might be able to get some ideas from their site or contact them and get advice for planning this kind of trip. Look on my profile under "Ideas" and click the Breaking the Cycle icon to see links to their sites. I hope this works out for you; it's an awesome idea. I'll be praying!
